Keep Villa Park Growing towards a Brighter Future

Generate family-friendly economic development on St. Charles Road and other major Villa Park Thoroughfares

  • Enable outreach efforts to family-friendly businesses
  • Survey current businesses and their concerns
  • Connect businesses to possible TIF funding initiatives
  • Run village-wide marketing campaign to help local businesses, such as Villa Park Restaurant Week and Villa Park Spa and Beauty Week

Respond to the need for a fast-track permitting process for crucial services (HVAC, plumbing, etc.)

  • 24-hour turnaround time for permitting process for heating, cooling and plumbing repairs and replacements
  • Implement an easy methodology through currently BS&A software
  • More timely inspection processes

Orchestrate a long-term plan for revamping of existing pool and creation of new pool

  • Assess current pool location and condition. A liner was installed recently at Jefferson Pool, but that is only a limited-time fix
  • Gather data on needs and wants of residents
  • Identify pool location and possible amenities
  • Funded via an increase in long-term accumulation of special taxes, development of TIF District, community fundraising and grant applications.
  • Also research joint ventures with local schools or neighboring towns

Work towards an underpass at the train station with pursuit of government funding

  • An underpass would improve safety of pedestrians at crossing as well as reduce congestion for cars when trains are present
  • It would also allow quicker access for emergency responders to all areas of town
  • Assess correct location of potential underpass
  • Will require grant funding and joint venture with Union Pacific and Metra
  • TIF Funding can alleviate some costs if development in area occurs

Identify community-driven and shovel-ready plan for the Iowa Community Center area

  • Survey community for their wants and needs for Iowa Community Center
  • Consider different long-term uses of Iowa Community Center building
  • Completed after the fire station upgrades are completed

Negotiate bike- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure improvements

  • Install sidewalks concurrently with road work
  • Use comprehensive plan to determine locations of necessary pedestrian crosswalks
  • Make Villa Park more bike friendly

Guide efforts to implement the current strategic plan initiatives and address comprehensive plan concerns

  • Display working graphic of the strategic plan in action on the village website
  • Require quarterly reports on strategic plan measures and success rate
  • Consistently re-assess initiatives to improve success rate on strategic plan
